School ...English style !

Spotted : really interesting articles in the English newspapers lately...

My attention was especially caught by two titles : "Don't say school, it upsets the children" (Daily Express, 03/01/09) and "Must do better...The teachers who think red ink upsets pupils" ((Daily Mail, 12/09)

Some of my readers may know that I'm a great fan of the British education system. Yes, really ! but sometimes, they do go overboard ...

First article "A headmistress has banned the word school because she fears it could stop some children from attending class. Staff must now say they work at "a place of learning"...

Apparemment, le mot école aurait des connotations péjoratives pour les parents et les enfants dans ce quartier défavorisé ...il n'y a pas non plus de cloches sonnant la fin des cours, ni de verrous aux portes...

Un projet de loi en France veut rebaptiser les lycées professionnels "Lycées d'arts et métiers"...

que pourrait-on trouver chez nous ? Lycée : "Endroit où vont les jeunes quand ils ne font pas grève" ?

Second article "Hundred of schools have barred teachers from marking in red in case it upsets the children.[it is ] "confrontational" and "Threatening"'...Pupils increasingly find that the ticks and crosses on their homework are in more soothing shades like green, blue pink and yellow"

En jaune ? ils écrivent sur des feuilles noires alors ? parmi mes élèves, j'ai plutôt constaté que les filles aimaient, voire adoraient écrire en rouge ou en rose ...

je suggère que les professeurs arrêtent tout simplement de noter les copies...ou qu'ils demandent à leurs animaux de compagnie ...une patte de chat, c'est pas mal, non ?
